Are You Using Free Hosting Services?

December 20th, 2009

Free web hosting is in many cases the most basic web hosting service that you can sign up with, and there are many free hosting providers available on the internet. The companies providing the free hosting accounts usually finance this by ads on the web sites that are hosted.

Another feature about free web hosting services – they are usually extremely limited. If you get a free hosting service, you are forced to have ads on the top and perhaps even on the bottom of your website, and depending on what your website is all about, it may not fit at all. However, if you are amongst those just starting out on the internet, a free hosting account may very well be the best option, since you probably don’t have a lot of traffic, or just a small site.

The type of domain that you receive when you sign up for a free web hosting account is usually a subdomain with the name that you pick (yourname.somefreewebhost.com) or a name in a directory (somefreewebhost.com/yourname). For example, if the name of your free host is the000webhost.com, then your web domain would be yourbusiness.the000webhost.com.

If you are a newbie, this is the type of account that you would probably want to get, but you should be aware of some of the shortcomings this sort of free web hosting account has, especially if you are looking for more advanced options:

Firstly, many free hosting accounts do not support databases. Databases are usually used for online data retrieval routines, or to manage dynamic content on your site, such as a wordpress blog. Many of these free web hosting sites do not even support the most widely used package called mySQL!

Secondly, the free webhosts may not support multiple email accounts; in fact they only give you one email account, which is usually a web based internet account (aka webmail).

However, recently some new companies has emerged, that will in fact give you a free hosting account without the recenly mentioned shortcomings; you get PHP, mySQL, email accounts and lots more! One of them is a free webhosting service found at the000webhost.com. They even allow you to host your own domain (a perfect reason to finally purchase a domain of your own), and you are not forced to display ads or anything like that. How’s that for an improvement!

The downside? – They will disable your account after 15 days without traffic, which could be a problem if you are just starting out. Some would call it a blessing, since it will force you to come up with new and fresh ways to generate web traffic to your site.

Cheap tickets to India: but still in class

December 20th, 2009

For cheap tickets to India there are many options from almost anywhere in the world. There are internet sites advertising the lowest prices or they will match them. One of these is makemytrip.com. They will match any fare that is posted from the US to India. But to find out exactly what their prices are would mean you will have to decide on a date for your trip. The lowest price they offer is $399, these are from New York to either Mumbai or Ahmedabad.

Then there is 4lowfare.com. This site has a special, just in time for the fiesta season. There are limited seats available but fares are starting at $349 excluding taxes. This is an important thing to remember, most low prices do not include the taxes that are associated with the fare.

Another discount fare site is primetravels.com. They are currently taking reservations for passengers from New York to Delhi at $370 plus taxes

Most other sites make offers of low prices like Yatra.com, but they come up short. A flight from New York to Mumbai is at $781 on Kuwait Airlines. The plane and airlines is top notch but the price is not necessarily cheap and there is a stopover in Kuwaiti City.

All of the above examples are for round trip tickets purchased online from their respective sites. If you need a visa to travel to India or at any possible stopover in Europe, then that additional cost is not included. All prices are subject to change without prior notice. But there are many options for cheap tickets to India for under $400 plus taxes.

Seminyak, Bali’s Fashion District

December 20th, 2009

Los Angeles has the Rodeo Drive, New York has Madison Avenue and Milan has Via Montenopoleone. When it comes to shopping in Bali however, there is only one place for fashionable trendsetting locals who knows not to judge a book by its cover – Seminyak.

If you can get past the gaping holes in the sidewalk, and there really is no alternative, you can unearth some fashionable treasures along this street. Many of the designers sell their wares for much higher prices in fashionable cities around the world. In between, along the disabled footpaths, you may also find some rough diamonds that may just be the perfect gift you’ve been looking for that special someone. All part of the fun and games here in Seminyak. Here are but a taste of the few highlights you can find along Jalan Raya Seminyak.

Flamingo in this strip is very popular with the young and hip things who shop here. Expect to find designer t-shirts, flirty dresses and pants and shirts for the boys. It’s a little bit surf mixed with a little rock and roll. They have another shop further up the strip just past Dhyanna Pura.

Body and Soul Boutique. One of the biggest retailers on this strip,, fashionable with girls and women, from three months old to whatever, provided you don’t need more than about size ten. The skinny jeans here are a must have and the girl’s fashion from tots to teens is fashionable and fun. Body and Soul outlet, across the street, is a good place to search for bargains.

Paul Ropp. A little further after Bintang Supermarket you will come across the Paul Ropp shop beside the Biasa 50% store. Paul is one of Bali’s most flamboyant designers, and boys, don’t let the loud colours put you off. Plenty of fashionable men are wearing Paul.

The Best of the Rest. Papillion – this designer has been making shoes in Bali for over ten years and has some great styles which she exports everywhere. In this strip you will also find Kerry Grima and Funky Princess who stock their own labels as well as some of the leading Australian designers like Allanah Hill, Bettina Liano and lots more. Beware not to overspend on those plastics!
